Nancy Giambo
Nancy Giambo, cherished and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, died peacefully on November 7, 2018, surrounded by family. She was 93.
Born in New York City on March 3, 1925, to Carmelo and Rose Raimondi, she was a longtime resident of Brooklyn and Rye.
Gifted with boundless strength and optimism, she devoted her life to her family. Married for 63 years to Joseph Giambo, who predeceased her, she raised three children and then helped raise their children. She was a superb cook and hostess, and her home was the center of many family gatherings, large and small, for several decades.
A sociable and spirited competitor, she loved games of all kinds, from cards to charades to doubles tennis. She was a voracious reader, especially of mysteries, and a fan of classic movies and Frank Sinatra. She enjoyed needlework and crocheted many blankets that she donated to charitable organizations.
Mrs. Giambo volunteered her time generously, most notably as president of Rye Recreation Seniors, for which she was inducted into the Westchester Senior Hall of Fame, and also the League of Women Voters, the United Hospital Twig, and several resident committees at The Osborn.
?Our mother loved people and had the unique gift of being able to communicate this love and warmth to everyone she met,? said her daughter, Dr. Diane LoRusso. ?She was always cheerful and upbeat and could lift someone?s spirits with her presence. My mother lit up a room.?
In addition to her daughter, Diane, and son-in-law Patrick of Rye, Mrs. Giambo is survived by her sons, Joseph R. Giambo (Sandra) of Harrison and Robert A. Giambo (Colleen) of Greenwich; nine grandchildren, Stephanie E. Larsen, Esq., Dr. Alexander P. LoRusso (Dr. Karen), Matthew Giambo, Michelle Giambo, Caroline Giambo, Deana Giambo, Dr. Heather E. Giambo, Jessica A. Giambo, and Cassandra C. Giambo; and four great-grandchildren, Maxwell R. Larsen, Gemma C. Larsen, Ryan A. LoRusso, and Darcy M. LoRusso.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated November 12 at Church of the Resurrection in Rye.
Donations in Nancy Giambo?s memory may be made to The Osborn Foundation, 101 Theall Road, Rye, NY 10580.
