For the third year in a row all of Rye Racquet’s Metropolitan Interclub Tennis League teams won their divisions or tied for first place.

This was the 10th consecutive championship season for the A team, which ended the season with 29 points, six more than its closest competitor, Bedford. Joy Cummiskey, who won the season-ending Williams Cup tournament with partner Corinna Bode, said, “To be part of a team like this, a team that challenges you to become a better player while cheering you on during the good days and bad, is something I think all of us cherish. Many of us have been around tennis for a long time and to find a team that gets it so right on a personal level is the most fulfilling part of competing.”  (It’s worth noting that the A team has come out on top 12 of the last 13 years.)

The B team’s season total was 22 points, as was New Rochelle’s. Rye Racquet’s Cristina Casati Lewis, who with Stacey Zuk, won the consolation draw of the Williams Cup said, “The highlight for me was having a great partner, coupled with great coaching, great captains, and being part of a team that always felt like a team — all of the ingredients for a successful season.” Debbie Barnwell was team captain.

This was the fifth year in a row that the C team won their division. Captained by Young Kim, the team scored 28 points, four ahead of Apawamis Club.

The Hudson Valley C2 team edged Chestnut Ridge 16-15. Co-Captain Noreen Childs applauded “a fantastic group of players who always have fun on the courts. A big thank-you to our pros for all their time and coaching efforts.”

Kudos to all the pros and a special shout out to Carolyn Cruz,

Director of Tennis & Operations and captain of the A team, and owner Kit Byron, who inspires players of all abilities year after year.
