The Rye Arts Center may not have begun with a Big Bang 56 years ago but every year it produces a veritable explosion of art and music programs, classes, exhibits, and special events.

At the Center’s “Big Bang Gala: Celebrating Steam” May 6, they honored two very special contributors, Gail Harrison Roman and Gary Mack.

Executive Director Meg Rodriguez describes Dr. Roman as a “driving force for quality and growth” since 1990. An art historian, curator, and lecturer, she brings arts education directly into classrooms through the Center’s Famous Artist program and has trained thousands of docents. “Gail’s philanthropic support has enabled The Rye Arts Center to be at the forefront of the STEAM education movement with the creation of a MakerSpace at 51 Milton. Her passion for bringing the arts to everyone is infectious!”

Mr. Mack, commonly referred to as the Art Center’s “Mackgician,” is “a true pied piper for young creative people,” says Rodriguez. “Gary does the impossible, he captures the attention and enthusiasm of young girls and boys, helping them develop skills while instilling a love of learning. Whether in his Creative Building, computer coding, or Minecraft classes, Gary meets every student at their level and takes them on an adventure.”
