Taking a page from “Mad Men,” The Little Garden Club of Rye journeyed through the advertising industry’s storied past for their Garden Club of America Flower Show, “It’s the Real Thing,” held May 11 and 12 at Whitby Castle.

The fabulous floral and botanical creations were inspired by popular ad slogans and created by many talented “mad women.” There were also photography and conservation and education exhibits.

The Little Garden Club was founded in 1931 by a group of avid gardeners and conservation-minded individuals. They have a long history of civic beautification — from the plantings at the Rye Post Office and the Rye Train Station to the historic Knapp House herb garden and the native plant demonstration garden at Rye Nature Center.

Gloves off to Flower Show Committee Chair Chris Murray, Vice Chair Susan Gabel, and all the other members who dug in for a blooming good show.
