The following summarizes reports filed at Rye Police headquarters from 7/4 to 7/19. The information does not include final court or other actions.
7/4: Westchester Beach Club employee burned by fireworks, taken to White Plains Hospital.
7/5: Man lying in grass on north side of Boston Post Road near Rye High School disoriented, smelled of alcohol. Taken to Greenwich Hospital.
7/6: Two dogs seen confined in parked car in Car Park 4 with outside temperature of 100 degrees. One dog escaped through partly open window; officer rescued second animal. Both exhibited signs of heat stress. Humane Society of New Rochelle notified. Water given to animals; one witness brought them to his air-conditioned office. Car owner, of Glendale Road, served with Confinement of Companion Animals in Vehicle summons.
7/6: Yonkers woman reported wallet with credit cards, $17 in cash lost somewhere on Oakland Beach.
7/6: Driver of blue Honda Civic seen in Greenwood Union cemetery sitting in beach chair. Warned of proximity to coyote attacks, woman asked to be let alone. Agreed to be breathalyzed: .30% BAC. Transported to White Plains Hospital. Husband alerted. Empty four-pack of Sutter Home wine recovered.
7/6: Maple Street resident reported car keyed overnight, tire punctured. Deposition to be dropped off at HQ.
7/7: Black BMW driving south on Midland Avenue near Marriott Courtyard with expired registration sticker. Stamford driver showed suspended license but no insurance card. Inventory of vehicle revealed several empty bottles of beer, one ice-cold Corona and a Joost Malt Liquor. Passenger’s ID revealed active NYC warrant. Arrests made, vehicle towed and impounded.
7/8: Adelaide Street caller concerned about elderly neighbor: not seen for several days, mail piling up. Forcible entry by officers revealed deceased resident in upstairs bedroom. Medical Examiner’s Office called.
7/8: Caller alerted police to intoxicated party in pink shirt and khaki pants attempting to get in car at train station. Discovered sitting on back bumper of vehicle, sweating profusely. Announced he’d been drinking tequila before vomiting on scene. Transported to Greenwich Hospital.
7/9: Employee at Purdy Avenue establishment reported finding male employee’s Smartphone surreptitiously placed in women’s bathroom so as to record persons using facility. Suspect placed in custody.
7/9: Con Edison employee reported receiving email with inappropriate material downloaded from Facebook. Civilian statement taken.
7/9: Hill Street homeowner reported theft of iPod loaded with 1500 songs and $650 in cash from son’s bedroom during house party. Detectives notified.
7/9: Greenhaven Road resident reported Jeep Liberty stolen. See 7/14 follow-up.
7/9: Black and orange checkered skateboard with green marker stolen from steps of McDonald Building at Rye Rec. Two individuals seen taking same. Deposition completed.
7/9: Dearborn Avenue neighbors filed dispute over noise, parking and cigarette smoking. Advised to take complaints to landlord.
7/10: Member of a southern band staying at Marriott Courtyard reported fellow band member struck him in eye and wished to press charges. Victim transported to Westchester Medical Center. Offender, released on $250 bail, admitted attack, saying, “I didn’t realize I hit him that hard. I was just swinging.” Ah, a swing band.
7/10: White park ranger golf cart missing from Rye Town Park. Sworn statement filed.
7/10: Board member at The Ives reported overnight theft of $2150 in ornamental grasses at entrance. Similar uprootings have been reported in past. Owner’s deposition filed.
7/10: Halsted Place resident reported neighbor removed hemlock hedge, replacing it with fence, and that new mulch had spilled onto complainant’s property. He considers it vandalism. Statement taken, giving officers mulch to think about.
7/10: Hen Island resident reported party known to him spit upon his car (not vintage one with decal of character all in brown wearing sailor hat) at Rye Marina. Does not wish to press charges at this time.
7/11: Trails End resident arrested after altercation with husband in front of their 6-year-old in which he suffered bite marks and blow on head sufficient to warrant transport to Greenwich Hospital. Total Order of Protection ordered by Court. Wife released on $500 cash bail.
7/12: Harassment report from City Hall/Library parking lot: woman who parked her vehicle “three to four inches over the line” of her parking space returned to car to find older white male pounding on it and yelling, “I hate when people block me in” and “come out here you ****, and move your ******* car!” When he saw her he began to make aggressive gestures (“wildly swinging his arms and forceful in his body movement”), so he got into car and tried to drive off, hitting construction vehicle while backing out. She eventually called Rye PD. Angry man traced to Yonkers, charged with 2nd Degree Harassment
7/12: Oakland Beach Avenue resident reported Ontario dog breeder had taken her money but not sent her a dog. Breeder will not return phone calls or payment. Civilian statement taken.
7/13: Norwalk man reported someone impersonating him had withdrawn $9,000 from his savings account. Believes culprit is his brother, who resembles him and was recently arrested for fraud by Greenwich PD. Owner’s deposition placed on file.
7/14: Two Port Chester men issued summonses for unlicensed fishing at Tide Mill, three others at Edith Read Sanctuary.
7/14: Greenhaven Road resident reported Jeep not stolen, but parked at Rye Marina.
7/14: Upper Dogwood Lane resident reported unknown hacker, posing as husband, sent all his contacts emails requesting $1850 be wired to account in England. London Police requested report from Rye PD.
7/15: Campers at Rye Nature Center turned in wallet found on grounds. Returned to owner.
7/15: Deer stuck in fence at Rye Synagogue appeared to have broken both rear legs. Dispatched by officer.
7/15: Bike locked in rack at Rye train station reported stolen. Owner’s deposition filed.
7/16: Woodland Drive resident reported finding Harrison woman’s purse, previously reported stolen. Property left at desk for owner.
7/16: Coyote sighted on Glendale Road. Harrison PD alerted.
7/17: Evergreen Avenue home owner, asked by neighbor to keep an eye out while she was away, reported several youths in neighbor’s pool. Youths claimed absent housekeeper had given them permission, though all gave different names for housekeeper; identified selves as Greenwich residents by passports. Hmmm. Given desk appearance tickets and ROR’d.
7/17: Port Chester driver of Dodge Caravan stopped for making illegal left from I-95 ramp onto Boston Post Road. Asked to lower his window, driver opened door. Eyes bloodshot, watery, glassy; breath alcoholic. Stated he had “two or three beers.” Could not exit vehicle without supporting self on car. Failed all field sobriety tests, especially one-leg-stand test, making long strides forward instead. Breath analysis at .23% BAC. Subject arrested, vehicle impounded.
7/17: After Liberty Lines bus driver refused entry to youths (ages 12, 14, 15, all of the Bronx) who lacked proper fare, he reported they damaged bus door and fled. Later picked up on North Street, positively ID’d by driver. Parents called to pick up children.
7/17: Intoxicated male youth seen near Library Lane in shopping cart (possibly recreating scene from “Animal House”). Turned over to parents.
7/19: Rye Golf Club accountant reported counterfeit $10 received at golf course. Car 14 dispatched.
7/19: Three fishermen at Water’s Edge wall found to have undersized porgies. Summonses issued.
