Vive La France!
The New-York Historical Society offers free Friday night admission from 6-8 p.m. and the opportunity to see great French films, courtesy of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, in celebration of the society's ongoing exhibition “French Founding Father: Lafayette's Return to Washington's America”.
“Le Couperet” (2005), a drama written and directed by Costa-Gavras will be screened June 13. “Les Soeurs Fâchées” (2004), a comedy written and directed by Alexandra Leclère, will be shown June 20.

Epic Opera
The Greenwich Music Festival presents Claudio Monteverdi’s opera “The Return of Ulysses”, in full staging with baroque orchestra, at 7:30 p.m. at the Theater of St. Catherine’s in Riverside. On June 13, Yale professor Ellen Rosund, author of “Monteverdi’s Last Opera: A Venetian Trilogy”, will give a lecture at 6:30 p.m.
“Ulysses” is one of three surviving operas from Monteverdi, who is often cited as the father of modern opera. The opera follows Ulysses’ arduous journey home to his beloved wife Penelope after 20 years’ absence.

Beyond Borders
An opening reception for "Erasing Borders", a mixed media exhibit at the Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden, will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Paintings, photography and sculpture by 40 artists of Indian origin will be on display. The pieces touch on religion and culture and East-West melding and clashing.
The reception will feature music, dance and a children's program. "Erasing Borders" will be at the Hammond through September 6.

Music Man
The Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville will show a screening of the documentary "Sid Bernstein Presents…" at 7:15 p.m., followed by a Q & A with the man himself and New York Times critic Janet Maslin.
Bernstein is best known for helping to launch the British Invasion in the '60s by bringing bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks and The Animals to America. He also managed musicians ranging from The Rascals to Tony Bennett.
The documentary explores the legacy of the music and the impresario behind it. Tickets are $9 for members, $13 for non-members. Call 747-5555.

Futuristic Furniture
"Multiplicity: The Art of the Furniture Prototype," a juried show co-sponsored by the Furniture Society and the Neuberger Museum opens today at The School of Art Design at Purchase College.
Last winter, studio furniture makers, artists, architects and industrial designers were invited to submit a prototype — any type of furniture in any material. The resulting works will be on view through August 10. Call 251-6100.

Bluegrass at Caramoor
Opening weekend of the 63rd annual Caramoor International Music Festival continues at 4:30 p.m. in the Venetian Theater with the Caramoor debut of a quintessentially American bluegrass group, Chatham County Line.
Hailing from North Carolina, Chatham County Line fuses old-time, gather-‘round-the-microphone bluegrass with a love for the progressive sounds of American-made music. The quartet continues the Festival’s tradition of presenting the best in American Roots.

Summerpiano at Purchase
Discover the music of summer, improvisation and romance at Summerpiano 2008, a musical series presented by the Purchase College School of the Arts, Conservatory of Music. The series showcases the talent of pianists and percussionists associated with the Conservatory. The June 24 concert features “The Spirit of Improvisation”; “The Romantic Impulse” will be explored July 8.
