Ada Cirillo

Ada Cirillo, of Rye, died June 9 at Greenwich Hospital. She was 75.

Mrs. Cirillo was born November 3, 1933 in San Martino in Pensilis, Italy, to Biagio and Anna DiClaudio Raimondo. She moved to New York as a teenager.
She first met her future husband, Joseph S. Cirillo, when she walked into his father's shoe repair shop and he couldn't take his eyes off her very blonde hair. The couple met again when they both worked at the Sanborn Map Company.
They were married May 6, 1956 at St. Joseph Church in New Rochelle.
Mrs. Cirillo worked as an advertising representative for Spotlight magazine in Rye.
An impressive athlete, she loved tennis and was a Pilates and yoga enthusiast long before it was trendy. She was also a member of the Woman's Club of Rye.
Mrs. Cirillo is survived by her loving husband; children Frank G. and wife Argie of Rye, and Rosanna and husband Sam Phillips of Pawling; grandchildren Frank J., Jaimie A., Joseph B. and David G.; and a sister, Rosita DiBello of Newton, Conn. She was predeceased by a son, Joseph.
A mass was held June 12 at Resurrection Church.

Judy Davis

Judy Davis, 64, of Cold Spring, N.Y., and Sunset Beach, N.C., and formerly of Rye, passed away peacefully too soon on June 21.
She was the beloved wife of Danny and the cherished mother of Andy Davis and Katy and Paul Cox. Loved and admired by everyone she touched, her energetic spirit will live on through her adored grandchildren, Jacob and Judine Cox.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 26, at noon at Round Hill, 110 Round Hill, Washingtonville, New York.
Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or Guiding Eyes for the Blind.

 

Andrew Triandafilou

Andrew Triandafilou, a longtime Rye resident, died May 29 at the Richard Rosenthal Hospice at Stamford Hospital. He was 89.
Mr. Triandafilou was born November 29, 1919 in Worchester, Mass. He was the second youngest of seven children of Panagiota and Rev. Nicholas Triandafilou, a Greek Orthodox priest who established the Trenton, New Jersey, parish.
A proud member of the Marine Corps and Reserve, Mr. Triandafilou attained the rank of Captain. He was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 13th Marines, 5th Marine Division Fleet Marine Force and he fought in the battle of Iwo Jima.
He graduated from Rider College, where he earned a degree in business administration and played for the varsity tennis team. He married his college sweetheart, Irene Pulcer, October 12, 1946. The couple moved to Rye in 1958. Mrs. Triandafilou died in 1982.
A hardworking entrepreneur in the maritime industry, Mr. Triandafilou owned and operated many successful American and Greek companies.
Mr. Triandafilou was a founder of the Greek Orthodox Church of Our Savior in Rye. An active member of Westchester Country Club for 50 years, he enjoyed playing tennis and socializing. He owned a home on the club grounds and later moved into a residence at the club building.
Known as Andy or Mr. T, he was good-natured, generous and loyal and loved to tell jokes.
Mr. Triandafilou is survived by four sons: Andrew of Stamford, Charles and Peter of Seattle and Gregory of Phoenix, Ariz., granddaughters Kristine and Amanda, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a sister, Jean Horvath of Milltown, N.J. He will be missed by his close friends whom he considered family, including Liz Plate, her daughters Elise and Linda and their families, and Maria Spanakos and Stephen Vasaka.
A funeral was held June 4.

Helen Reader

Helen Reader, a Rye resident for more than 80 years, died May 20 at her home in Rye Brook. The cause was Alzheimer's. She was 89.
Mrs. Reader was born July 18, 1918 in Dover, New Hampshire, to Charles and Helen Brown. She graduated from Cornell University and received an M.A. from Columbia University.
While at Cornell, she met her future husband, Dr. George Gordon Reader. They were married May 23, 1942. Dr. Reader, former Livingston Farrand Professor and Chair of the Department of Public Health at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, died in 2005.
Mrs. Reader taught world history and African studies at Port Chester Middle School from 1965 to 1977.
A lifelong member of Rye Presbyterian Church and the American Yacht Club, she was also involved with the Rye Historical Society, the League of Women Voters, the Woman's Club of Rye and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Mrs. Reader is survived by four sons: Jonathan W. Reader of Florham Park, N.J., David P. Reader of Port Chester, Mark M. Reader of Haddonfield, N.J., and Peter M. F. Reader of Maplewood, N.J.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service was held May 24 at Rye Presbyterian Church.
