Summer Fun

Build They Must

Boys and girls ages 7-12 can immerse themselves in the world of architecture during the weeklong program at the Jay Heritage Center August 2-6 from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The cost is $175 per camper. Get Creative

The Rye Arts Center is currently offering a weekly morning Creative Arts Program, open to ages 4-12, where students can get a well-rounded, hands- on arts experience with a little bit of art history thrown in. A focus on art movements and culture is incorporated into drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, printmaking, creative movement, storytelling, and music and dance classes.

This popular program runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.–noon through August 13.
RAC also offers an array of afternoon programming, devised to keep everyone’s creative juices flowing. Afternoon programs in Manga cartooning, songwriting, introductory guitar and keyboard, ceramics, drawing, painting, photography and watercolor are just a few of the programs offered. Students in morning programs who stay for an afternoon program are invited to enjoy a supervised lunch between 12-12:30 p.m. each day.

The Musical Theatre Workshop will be in full swing starting in mid-August. This summer’s production is “West Side Story”. For more information, visit www.ryeartscenter.org or call 967-0700.

International Sports

Children will have a great time with the staff of the US Sports Institute at Rye Recreation’s Multi-Sport Camp, August 23-26 from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. Kids will experience 12 different sports from around the world. Campers can learn how to bowl a Cricket ball, score a try in Rugby and rack up plenty of goals in a variety of sports.

All activities and games take place in a positive, low-pressure educational environment under the guidance of qualified coaches. Great for ages 5-14 years old. Bring a bag lunch. The fee is $135 for residents, $160 non-residents. Call 967-2535.

Take the Field

Rye Recreation’s Baseball Camp runs from August 23-26 from 9-10:15 a.m. for grades 3-4 and from 10:30 a.m.-noon for grades 5-7. Kids will focus on the fundamentals of fielding, batting, pitching, base running and catching. Campers can choose to attend specific days in order to focus on a particular skill. The fee is $35 per day for grades 3-4 and $40 per day for grades 5-7. For more information, call 967-2535.

Tee Time

At Rye Recreation’s Golf Camp August 30 through September 1, from 9 a.m.-noon, children will learn fundamentals, advanced techniques, rules and etiquette, while gaining an understanding of all parts of the golf course. All equipment is supplied. Great for grades K-8. The fee is $165 for residents, $190 non-residents. Call 967-2535.
