Mix and Mingle

Wainwright House is having a Summer Solstice Celebration Thursday, June 19, 7 p.m. Many ancient celebrations are held in different parts of the world to mark this event, also known as Midsummer, Litha, or St. John's Day. In ancient times it was considered a time of fullness of life, worldly blessings and celebration. Not much has changed today in how we look at summer. We see it as a time of vacations, play, celebration and fun.
Bear Walker, Native American healer, spiritualist and storyteller will give the opening prayer and entertain listeners with wonderful stories that have been passed down from generation to generation through the Native American oral tradition. The ceremony will continue with a drumming circle led by Amy Benesch. All you need to participate is an open heart and a willing mind. Bring a drum or rattle if you have one.
Barbara Schmitt of Rye invites guests to join her in a walk through the Wainwright’s classic seaside Labyrinth, accompanied by music and spiritual dance to celebrate the maze’s first birthday.
Refreshments will be served. This is a complimentary program, but donations are welcome. For more information or to reserve a place, call 967-6080.
