National Honor Society Inductees

Ninety-four Rye High School seniors were inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS) on Nov. 2 in recognition of their commitment to service, scholarship, character, and leadership.

RHS Musicians Take Their Talent Stateside
John Halliday (percussion), Dylan Kindler (trombone), Courtney Clark (violin), Sam Malin (Tympani) and Jesseca Turner (cello) were chosen to play in this year's All-State Band and Orchestra, which performed Nov. 9 at SUNY Purchase. In addition, Todd Beaney, RHS and RMS music teacher, was asked to accompany the Women's Chorus.

At Your Service
Matthew O'Sullivan, left, enjoys preparing fish cakes for the 500 or more guests served daily at P.O.T.S. (Part of the Solution), a soup kitchen and homeless shelter on Webster Avenue in the Bronx. Matthew, 16, is a senior at Regis High School in New York City. The Jesuit school promotes hands-on community service and allows seniors to pursue community service full-time in the final trimester. Matthew, a Rye resident, is a graduate of Resurrection School.

Community Unveiling of Milton School
Milton School Principal Dr. JoAnne Nardone invites Rye residents to a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sunday, Nov. 12, to celebrate the completion of additions and renovations to the school. The event begins at 3 p.m. and includes a guided tour of the school. The Rye High School Jazz Band will perform and school and community officials will speak.

Spotlight on  Melanie Chow
Of Mice and Medicine

While many students spent the summer at the beach, Melanie Chow was spending nine hours a day in a lab performing bone marrow transplants in mice.

Spirited Scholar Julia Tartaglia
Julia Tartaglia received an award not often bestowed on a 16-year-old high school student. She was one of 15 female high school seniors nationwide who received the Paul and Kathleen Severino Future Leader Award for academic excellence and entrepreneurial spirit.

RCDS Scholars Recognized
Eighty-two Rye Country Day School students have been honored by The College Board’s 2006 Advanced Placement Program, with 10 reaching the rank of National Scholars.

Stars of Stage and School
“Make it Happen,” the 2006 Rye Middle School Revue was held Friday, Oct. 27, and Saturday, Oct. 28, in the Rye Performing Arts Center.

French American School Open House
The French American School of New York (FASNY) will hold an Open House at its preschool campus in Scarsdale Saturday, Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon.

RCDS Students and Faculty Make Strides for Breast Cancer
More than 50 members of the Rye Country Day Community gathered at Manhattanville College recently to participate in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk-a-thon. Led by head chaperone Mr. Doug Cerrone, the walkers raised a little over $5,100 for the charity and enjoyed a lovely fall day, as well.
