French American School Open House

The French American School of New York (FASNY) will hold an Open House at its preschool campus in Scarsdale Saturday, Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon. Parents interested in enrolling their children in Nursery, Pre-K and Kindergarten are encouraged to attend. The school is one of only two in Westchester County that offers a bilingual/bicultural curriculum in a coeducational setting for preschool children.

The French American School of New York was founded in 1980 by two teachers from the Lycée Français who wanted to offer bilingual/bicultural education in Westchester. It opened in Larchmont with 17 nursery school children, and today has more than 700 students, representing almost 40 nationalities, enrolled on three campuses in Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Scarsdale. The French textbooks used in the classrooms are the same as those used in schools in France.

Some subjects are taught in English; others in French. Support is available for children who do not speak English or French at home. Non-French speaking children, who begin their education at FASNY's nursery, are typically able to follow the French curriculum by first grade. The combined curriculum prepares the students for either an American secondary school or any level of the French school system.

If you would like to attend the Open House, RSVP to 834-3002, ext. 233. The Scarsdale campus is located at 85 Palmer Avenue.
