Rye Neck Girls Soccer
The Magical Run Comes to an End

The clock finally stuck midnight for Cinderella Wednesday, Nov. 1, in Nanuet as the Golden Knights defeated the Panthers, 6-1, but the road to the Class B semifinal is one that will long be remembered for Rye Neck.

Paddles Up!

Gearing up for the platform tennis season, Bob Considine and Mike Cochran of Viking Academy gave a three-hour platform tennis clinic at Manursing Island Club last week. Paddle tennis, as it is colloquially called, has enjoyed a recent surge in popularity. Westchester paddle tennis will be at an all time high with over 50 teams playing in multiple leagues throughout the county, according to Considine, who with his partner is ranked fifth in the nation.

Rye, which has a rich platform tennis history, has five clubs fielding teams in both men's and women's leagues. Pictured with the pros: Peter Urbanczyk, Bill Gedale, Doug Stern, Monte Stubbs, Cole Mackay, Mark Rice, Sam Baker and Jim Gallagher, members of the Manursing Men's Team.

Head coach Kevin Kelly and his Rye Garnets waited 365 days for this moment.
On the fifth of November, 2005, Putnam Valley defeated Rye, 1-0, in the Sectional final at Lakeland High School. It was the Garnets only loss of the season, and the Tigers would go on to win the State Championship.

Holy Child VS. Rye Country Day School Field Hockey
Last Second Heroics Earn Holy Child First State Championship

“Unbelievable.”
Whether it was in complete jubilation or dejection, that was the word most uttered after Holy Child’s – well, unbelievable – 1-0 victory over Rye Country Day School. With Monday, Nov. 6’s win, the Gryphons claimed the New York State Association of Independent Schools Athletic Association Championship.

Wildcats Surge to the Finals
Even though their season ended in a heartbreaking loss to Holy Child in the NYSAISAA Finals, Rye Country Day School must be commended for an excellent season. Prior to the loss to the Gryphons, the Wildcats defeated Masters, 5-2, at home, and then Fieldston on the road in the Bronx, 3-2. They finished the season with a record of 9-4-2.
