Activate America Activates Rye
 
The headlines say it all. "Fifty-nine million adults obese." "Half of all deaths in America are preventable." "The current generation is the first that may not outlive its parents." But there’s good news: an unprecedented initiative by the national YMCA called Activate America, to help improve the health of all Americans by getting us to walk more. The Rye Y kicked off local participation with a sign-up Thursday, September 18, handing out pedometers and healthy snacks. All participants logging at least 70,000 steps will be entered in a raffle to be held Thursday, October 2.
