On Friday, September 12, The Rye Arts Center welcomed artists for its Eighth Annual Painters on Location. This year, the artists had two days to explore the Sound Shore area and paint their favorite spots. The rainfall started Friday afternoon, but the artists persevered — painting under awnings, umbrellas and the closest available shelter. Forty artists chose a Rye location, such as The Jay Heritage Center, Kirby Lane, Purchase Street, Edith Read Sanctuary, Rye Boat Basin, Playland and the Marshlands.
By 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon the artists had all returned to the Rye Arts Center with their freshly done works. That’s when the real festivities began. The painters have become well acquainted after several years of participating in the event and used the reception as an chance to catch up and view each other’s work.
At 5 p.m., guests began streaming into the center to view the finished paintings. Guests and artists were able to mingle and discuss the very thing that brings them together: the importance of art and The Rye Arts Center’s efforts to inspire interest and participation.
There seemed to be a whole new level of energy at this year’s event. The quality of the art was met with enthusiasm and spirited bidding.
