Croton Man Suspected In Recent Burglaries
Local authorities have apprehended the perpetrator believed to be responsible for multiple burglaries in Rye earlier this month. Mamaroneck, Harrison, Rye and County police worked together September 20 to capture Keith T. McBride, a 44-year-old Croton-on-Hudson resident. McBride was arrested at approximately 8 p.m. after driving into Port Chester. He was charged with felony burglary in connection with a Mamaroneck break-in September 19.
“We’re looking into the situation,” said Lieutenant Joseph Verille. “He may be responsible for some of the burglaries in our community. The patterns are similar.”
Several burglaries were reported in Rye – among other local communities – in early September. On two occasions, witnesses observed an intruding white male in their homes who was roughly six feet tall with a muscular build.
Seventeen burglaries have been reported in Rye so far this year. That number is down from 2007, when 21 occurred. Ten of those instances were believed to be committed by “pillowcase perp” Jerry Johnson, the 52-year-old Queens resident connected with the crime spree between October 29 and November 13 that year. Both 2008 and 2007 numbers are up slightly from 2006 (15), 2005 (13) and 2004 (15). According to Verille, the numbers are “hovering around the norm.”
