Recycle, It’s the Law

Do recycle all newspapers, including inserts, all junk mail, catalogues, old phone books, corrugated cardboard, brown cardboard, brown paper bags, and pizza box tops.

How: Remove most tape. Flatten boxes. Put boxes inside another box or tie them together. No need to remove staples. Tie paper with twine, place loose in your recycling bin or in a paper bag.

Don’t place in plastic bags. Don’t recycle old books. Don’t recycle cardboard marked by food. Don’t recycle waxed (milk cartons) or grey cardboard (many cereal boxes). “If it is grey, throw it away. If it is brown, keep it around!”

Don’t let your paper and cardboard for recycling get wet. If it gets wet, it cannot be recycled. Cover your bin well on rainy days. A good idea is to put paper and cardboard in your smaller recycling box, then place the larger box holding your cans and bottles on top.

Did you know?

It takes 500,000 trees to supply Americans their Sunday papers each week.
Each ton of paper recycled saves 380 gallons of oil.
Each person uses an average of 580 pounds of paper per year.

County Recycling Days will be held at Playland Friday, November 7, 1-3 p.m. and Saturday, November 8, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Bring unwanted personal documents to the Mobile Shredder there.
