Also at Wainwright, find a guiding light at Journey Through Darkness: Depth, Transition, and the Uncharted Sea, Thursday, October 2, 7:15 to 9 p.m. Dr. E.H. Rick Jarow, author and professor of Religious Studies at Vassar College, will discuss passing through the shadows in our lives; whether they appear as loss, chronic illness, addiction or uncertainty about the next step in life. There is a $25 fee for members, $35 non-members.
Frank Strauss, public relations director for the New York Yankees for more than 50 years, will speak at the Rye library, Sunday, October 5, at 2 p.m. He will read from his recently published book, “Dawn of a Dynasty: The Incredible and Improbable Story of the 1947 New York Yankees”. Full of information on this storied team, the event is can't-miss for any Yankees fan.
Release your inner vampire, confront your demons and have some pre-Halloween fun, Tuesday, October 7, at 7 p.m., when the Metaphysical Book Group explores paranormal romance in pulp fiction. Suggested readings for this discussion are: “Dates from Hell”, by Kim Harrison, “Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter”, by Laurel K. Hamilton, “Twilight”, by Stephanie Meyer, and “Last Wolf Hunting”, By Rhyannon Byrd. These and other books in the genre are available at the library.
DeLaune Michel, author of “The Safety of Secrets”, will be the guest speaker at the Between the Lines book group's October 9 meeting, 7 p.m. at the Rye Free Reading Room. Humorous and poignant, “Secrets” is a beautifully written exploration of the bonds forged in childhood that are challenged decades later, and of the fulfillment of dreams and the damage they sometimes cause. La Panetiere will host a book discussion and signing with Susan Finelli, author of “Behind the Shadows”, Friday, October 10 at noon. The event includes a special 3-course prix-fixe lunch for $25.
