Arts for All

The Rye Arts Center presents Southern Exposure: Atmospheric Pots and the Penland Connection September 30 through November 8, in conjunction with "All Fired Up! A Celebration of Clay in Westchester. The exhibit will feature works by 39 talented artists who all share a connection with the nationally recognized Penland School of Craft in North Carolina, some who passed through the school as students, others as teachers or artists in residence.
The show emphasizes work by potters accomplished at firing with wood, salt or soda. This style of firing results in distinctive, rustic and dramatic pottery.
During the six-week exhibition, The Rye Arts Center will host workshops for adults and children. An opening reception will be held October 4, from 4 to 6 p.m. Contact Emilia Del Peschio, RAC Arts Program Coordinator, at 967-0700 ext. 33 or at artscoordinator@ryeartscenter.org for more information.
The 56th Annual Beaux Art Exhibit, sponsored by the Woman's Club of Rye, opens October 18 at the Rye Free Reading Room. Oils, watercolors and pastels, along with mixed media, graphics and photographs, will be on view. Interested artists must register before October 6. Fees are $25 for the first entry and $10 for a second. Artists must be at least 18.
Funds raised through the exhibit go towards an art scholarship presented annually to a graduating Rye High School senior planning to study art in college.
This year's honoree at the Beaux Art Exhibit will be Deborah T. Hulbert, an active supporter of the club.
Call Adela Barth Coll at 203-329-8154 for more information.
