24th Annual Jarden Westchester Triathlon

Flowing through their own backyard, it was only natural that Rye’s triathletes put forth their best efforts September 21 in the 1.5K swim, 40K bike, and 10K run event.
Participants dove into Long Island Sound at 7 a.m. and then biked through Rye, Port Chester, Harrison, and Greenwich. The final run included a leg on Hill Street nicknamed “Mike’s Hill”, honoring Rye’s Michael Swain, a Westchester Triathlon member who passed away in June from pancreatic cancer. Proceeds from the event benefited The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter, the Friends of Claire Foundation for ALS Disease, the Rye YMCA, and several other charities.
Shelley Wolfson once again headlined Rye’s cast of competitors, finishing second overall among women with a time of 2:20:54. Noga Ruttenberg (2:38:46) placed third in the 35-39 age group, and Wendy Nagle (2:38:49) took third among 45-49-year-old females. William Curran was tops in the 60-64 category on the men’s side with a time of 2:41:02. Philip Gormley (2:20:48) finished third in the 45-49 age group.
Rye’s young triathletes fared extremely well a day earlier in the Kids’ Triathlon at Rye Town Park. Katie Popp, Meredith Tibbals, Fabian Meeusen, and Liam Egan all placed first in their respective age groups. Other top five finishers included Alexandra Palermo, Nola Jenkins, Emma Veber, Nathalie Rodilosso, Elizabeth McCooey, and Sam Gray.
