Panthers Serve a Heaping Helping of Home Cooking
Rye Neck’s football team has been anything but a pleasant host for visiting schools this season. The Panthers throttled Blind Brook at home September 20, scoring 31 first-half points en route to a 41-0 win. They improved to 2-1, and have now outscored opponents 96-8 in the not-so-friendly confines of the Rye Neck campus.
The Black Hats used 11 different running backs to compile 448 yards on 31 carries, averaging nearly 15 yards a clip. Senior captains Dan Datino and Jack Newton led the charge. Datino rushed six times for 147 yards and two touchdowns, while Newton ran five times for 137 yards and hit paydirt twice as well. Each of the duo’s four touchdowns came after runs of 50-plus yards.
Rye Neck’s defensive effort was also impressive. Senior Eamon Marley had two sacks and Joe LaBella, another senior captain, made a team-leading six tackles. The Panthers forced two turnovers, one on a Datino interception and the other when senior captain C.J. Haviland recovered a fumble. Blind Brook was limited to 67 yards on the ground and completed one pass for 16 yards.
The Black Hats’ next game is September 27 at Bronxville. Kick off is slated for 7 p.m.
