The Distinctive Style of Mara Marrero
– By Janice Llanes Fabry –
Whether you are modifying your wardrobe or contemplating a complete metamorphosis, YOS Image Consultant offers comprehensive and practical solutions. Owner Mara Marrero takes her clients to that next level by guiding them through a transformation that includes everything from fashion to fitness advice. At YOS (Your Own Style) Image, the emphasis is on empowering a client while accentuating his or her own personal flair.
“When men or women start changing their look and start buying the right clothes, doors open for them,” explained Marrero. “They realize they can make better choices.”
Helping clients be the best they can be, she starts with body image, which is often tied to weight and wardrobe. Subsequently, she steers them to appropriate fitness programs and follows up with nutrition recommendations and personal shopping. The hands-on consultant is not afraid to get down and dirty by overhauling clients’ cupboards and closets.
A fashion stylist by trade for many years, Marrero made her mark in the fashion industry in marketing, buying and retail management. When the retail hours became too inflexible for her family, she ventured into the nine-to-five world of banking, but missed the personal interaction and the creative aspects of her old job.
“Although I am fascinated with the banking industry and the economy, I found I needed to be around people and get back to listening to their needs,” recalled Marrero. Strategizing to return to fashion styling but bypassing retail, she took a circuitous route and proceeded to work at weight-loss centers. Two years ago, the Rye resident parlayed her background and newly honed weight-loss and nutrition expertise into YOS Image.
What’s the best advice she has given to her success stories? “I tell clients to rely on natural foods, to hydrate their bodies and sleep six to eight hours a day, so they have the strength to tackle other things,” said the Rye resident, who practices what she preaches. She also encourages her clients to “exercise at a center that has everything, from swimming to childcare.” She believes in mixing up exercise routines with the help of trainers and finding various outlets for toning and strengthening to relieve boredom.
As far as dressing, the stylist insists that people should not obsess over the arbitrary measurements of vendors, as all garments are cut differently. “Don’t lock into a size, lock into that look you want to achieve and focus on color. It will beautify you.”
Marrero meets clients in offices in Rye, Greenwich or White Plains. She’s currently offering a complimentary body composition analysis. Bathing suit workshops are available all summer. For more information, log on to www.yosimage.com or call 845-797-5070.
