White Plains Hospital Weighs In with New Support Group

As part of its ongoing initiative to promote health and wellness, White Plains Hospital Center has launched the “Healthy Living for Life Support Group”, a free monthly group open to anyone having difficulty trying to maintain a healthy weight. Starting June 16, the group will meet the third Tuesday of every month from 6-7 p.m. in the hospital auditorium.

“All are welcome to attend for open and frank discussions about weight loss, diets, meal preparation, exercise, and other topics relating to weight management,” said Sue Liller, RN, Occupational Health Director.

Participants will also be familiarized with and encouraged to take advantage of the America on the Move Foundation’s online (www.americaonthemove.org), easy-to-use, interactive tools and resources to get on a healthy weight track. Its proven premise is that by making incremental changes, an individual can avoid weight gain. For example, eating 100 fewer calories each day and adding just 2,000 steps to a daily routine can prevent the pounds from piling up.

The schedule of “Healthy Living for Life Support Group” meetings is:

June 16: Introduction and the America on the Move program

July 21: Healthy Eating on a Budget

August 18: Stretching for Your Health

September 22: The 15-Minute Workout

October 20: Walk Your Way to Fit: Techniques and Proper Footwear

November 17: Simple Strategies for Profound Relaxation

December 15: Holiday Binge Prevention: How to Stay on Track
