On the Home Front – Emerging Marketer Judy Croughan

– By Robin Jovanovich

When the youngest of her three sons reached kindergarten, Judy Croughan, a former Wall Street trader, decided it was time to return to the workforce. Selling local real estate was an easy choice for her because she’s efficient and loves meeting new people. The flexibility of the job was also a big draw.

Six and a half years ago Croughan joined Coldwell Banker/Country Properties as a licensed realtor. “We have a formidable international and national presence, along with a professional but relaxed country feel in our downtown Rye office. Nancy Neuman, our manager, is available 24/7, and Sula Pearlman has been a terrific friend and mentor to me over the years,” she said.

Croughan understood the importance of emerging technology early — “my sons are 17, 15 and 11.” She started writing a blog 18 months ago, and publishes a monthly e-newsletter. “I even filmed a video resume that was recently posted on YouTube, much to my children’s dismay!”

Always thinking outside the listing, she is planning a wine and cheese open house for her property at 9 Eldredge Court.

How to succeed in real estate? Be professional, advises Croughan, but be prepared to be a caretaker. “Take an interest in your clients and they’ll become lifelong friends!”

When she shows young families the Eldredge Court home, she helps them imagine a wonderful life on the quiet cul-de-sac — walking the kids to school, sledding every winter on the Rye Golf course. She has inside information, she’s a neighbor.
