Teen Times
On Friday, June 12, it’s Teen Night at the Rye Y from 7-10 p.m. Play basketball, swim, work out, play video games, air hockey and ping-pong, or just socialize with friends in the Teen Lounge. Entry is free for members, $5 for Teen Access members.
The following night, June 13, the Y will host an end-of-year-party for seventh and eighth graders from 7-10 p.m.
Gabriella Valentine, co-owner of Olivier New York, a boutique on Purchase Street, brings her enthusiasm and soap-making expertise to the Rye Free Reading Room June 18 from 3:30–4:30 p.m. While teens make their own soap, Valentine and Pierre Pelletier will talk about the dangers of harsh chemicals and recycled fats used by most of the skincare industry. Olivier is an eco-skincare manufacturer specializing in the creation of high-quality olive oil skin solutions.
Registration for the workshop is required. Call 231-3161.
This summer, the Rye YMCA is once again offering a Teen Strength Training and Conditioning Camp for teens, ages 13 through 16, to get in top shape, learn a healthy lifestyle and have fun.
The six-week camp runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from July 29 through August 7, 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Participants may register for two-week sessions or the entire six weeks. Teens work with personal trainers, physical education majors and sports nutrition specialists to reach their individual fitness goals. Activities include circuit training, cardio workouts, group and individual resistance training routines, agility training, fitness games, as well as spinning, yoga and polymetrics classes. The camp will use the Y’s extensive facilities.
“We welcome kids who are motivated to get fit as well as athletic kids already involved in sports,” said Charlie Clute, Rye Y Health & Fitness Director.
The fee for the six-week camp is $779 for members, $924 for non-members. Campers may register for two-week sessions at the rate of $396/members, $484/non-members. Registrations are now being accepted at the Member Services Desk. For more information, visit www.ryeymca.org and view the camp brochure or contact Charlie Clute at 967-6363, ext. 207.
