The Elite Know No Defeat
Anchored by a core of Rye High School sophomores, the White Plains Elite ’93 U-16 boys’ soccer team was undefeated, winning its age group competition in the US Club Soccer regional tournament held in and around Poughkeepsie over Memorial Day weekend. With the win, the team qualified to compete in the National Cup finals at the end of July in Virginia Beach, where the winners of ten regional tournaments held around the country will battle it out.
Representing Rye on the team are Rye High sophomores JP Barrett, Buck Reynolds, James Rimmer and Brandon Robinson. In the tournament, playing outside back, Barrett stopped cold some impressive attackers. Robinson controlled the middle of the field with his physical presence and strength in the air, while Reynolds played with confidence and determination – scoring the winning goal in the tournament finals. Rimmer ably held down the goalkeeper position, making a number of incredible saves during the course of the weekend.
The team, formed eight years ago as the Rye Strike Force third-grade travel team, is coached by Rye parents Brian Robinson and Steve Reynolds. From its beginnings as part of the Rye travel program, the team has evolved to include players from across Westchester and Fairfield counties.
