Summer Shape Up

This month’s cooking demonstration at La Panetière will be on a day of your choice June 17 through 19 at 11:30 a.m.

Fresh Food
The Rye Farmers Market is back for the season in the parking lot between Theodore Fremd Avenue and the Purchase Street stores every Sunday from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Freshly-picked fruits and vegetables from local farmers, pasture-raised meat, farmstead cheese and artisanal breads are just some of market items. Many new vendors have joined, so stop by soon.

Talks and Workshops

An exhibition on “The Birth of Rye Town Park” opens at the Knapp House Saturday, June 20. It focuses on the controversial origins of the park and the changes its construction brought.

Teen Times
On Friday, June 12, it’s Teen Night at the Rye Y from 7-10 p.m. Play basketball, swim, work out, play video games, air hockey and ping-pong, or just socialize with friends in the Teen Lounge. Entry is free for members, $5 for Teen Access members.

Summer Concert Series
Rye Town Park and the Friends of Rye Town Park will present a series of five free concerts at the south pavilion this summer.

Arts for All
The Rye Arts Center’s 4th Annual Adult Member Show is on view through June 27. A variety of mediums will be featured, including oils, pastels, watercolor, photography, sculpture, ceramics, prints, jewelry and textiles in this non-juried exhibition.

Kids’ Corner
Join the Rye Free Reading Room at the Summer Reading Program kick-off June 26 from 2-3 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room. This year’s theme is Be Creative @ Your Library. Paul Miller from Flow Circus will use magic, juggling and physical comedy to amaze and entertain.

Join the Summer Solstice Celebration at Wainwright House on June 18. Walk the Labyrinth at 6:30 p.m. with Barabara Schmitt, Labyrinth Leader, and enjoy the Fire Ceremony at 7:45 p.m. with Susan Wright, teacher of Shamanic Practices and Bear Walker, Native American Healer and Spiritualist. The Great Outdoors
Head to Edith Read Sanctuary Saturday, June 13, to see nesting birds, starting at 10 a.m. Since the migrants have all returned or moved through, now may be a good time to catch them as they breed. Participants will go out in search of nests, seeing the different types used by our native feathered friends. Binoculars provided. For information, visit 967-8720.
