TJ Smith Named Athlete of the Year

Senior TJ Smith was selected as the Lion's Club Athlete of the Year from the pool of nine candidates at the 10th Annual Rye Scholar Athlete Award Dinner held at The Osborn June 4.

“I can't stop smiling,” said Smith. “This is one of the best feelings in the world right now, right up there with winning the State Title. It's so nice to get the recognition for all the hard work I have put in over the years.”

Smith, a Section Champion in football, hockey and lacrosse this year, was voted as the best of the best by his peers at Rye High School.

“I've had the distinct privilege of working with TJ the last three years,” said Garnets' football defensive coach Tommy Maloney. “In my tenure no one has played their respective position as well and I don't think there has been a student-athlete in the history of Rye that has played on as many Section Champion teams as you. A few years from now the people of Columbus, Ohio, at Ohio State University will be as proud of you as we are here in the Garnet community.”
