A Soul-Seeking Exhibit

A five-day exhibit of photography with narrative by artist Marina Kohl opens at the Lesley Heller Gallery in Manhattan June 12. The exhibit, “Within the Sole: Walking in the Shoes of Seekers and Sages, explores how the world's spiritual traditions use the symbolism of the mundane (shoes and feet) to remember the sacred in everyday life.

Kohl documents impressions from an informal yearlong pilgrimage within a 30-mile radius from her home in Rye Neck. She studied how the idea of the sole (or foot, shoe, and path) is used in scripture and practice to point followers in the direction of truth or the holy. During this time, she visited communities, places of worship, and homes of people rooted in the world's major religious traditions. She sought to understand how different individuals are empowered by the wisdoms and teachings of their traditions, and asked them to describe their personal paths toward meaning.

Lesley Heller Gallery is located at 30 East 92nd St. Hours are Tuesday - Saturday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday evenings until 8.p.m. For further information, visit withinthesole.com.
