Tournament Honors Memory of Sacred Heart Alum

The fifth annual Katie Cassidy Higgins '96 Memorial Lacrosse Tournament was held June 2 on Convent of the Sacred Heart's turf fields in Greenwich. Girls' seventh and eighth grade lacrosse teams competed in round-robin play in memory of Higgins, who attended Convent of the Sacred Heart from kindergarten through graduation.

A three-sport varsity athlete in field hockey, basketball and lacrosse, Higgins went on to play lacrosse at St. Lawrence University. Her life was cut short by a tragic accident while crossing the street during her sophomore year.

"Katie was a talented athlete and a wonderful person,” said her aunt, Megan Cassidy Foley, who spoke on behalf of the Cassidy family. “Sacred Heart athletics were a huge part of her life. This tournament is an excellent way to honor her memory and spirit, in addition to helping a child who wouldn't necessarily have the opportunity to attend Sacred Heart.” Funds raised will go to the Katie Cassidy Higgins Scholarship Fund.
