5/7: Female complainant, a Stanley Keyes resident, stated a person known to her grabbed her by the neck and took her gold chain necklace in front of Midland Avenue building. Also taken was a cell phone that complainant said was “kicked” down a storm drain. Offender, a Forest Avenue resident, was charged with third degree robbery and assault.
5/8: Maple Avenue resident stated Exxon/Mobil gas card in her name was used in Virginia. Card, to which $382.94 was charged, might have been stolen from her mailbox.
5/10: While on routine patrol, officer observed white Chevy Express van with broken front windshield and no front license plate traveling east on Thruway Access Drive. Vehicle stopped and driver asked to produce license and registration. Driver stated he was unlicensed and could only produce Costa Rica ID card. Norwalk resident charged with operating a motor vehicle by unlicensed driver, operating motor vehicle with improper plates and operating unregistered motor vehicle on highway.
5/13: Complainant reported son accosted by two unknown males in driveway of his residence. Suspects fled into area of Rye Nature Center. Worker from High Street Roadhouse reported two males in dark clothes had climbed up off Thruway and were headed into Dublin neighborhood off Central Avenue. Officers checked area to no avail.
5/14: Oakwood Avenue resident stated he was at Commerce Bank around 2:20 p.m. removing a blue ring with round diamonds from his safety deposit box. Somewhere between bank and his vehicle, which was parked in the area of Subway on Purchase Street, ring was misplaced.
5/15: Caller stated that at 2:04 a.m. he saw three males damaging speed sign opposite his house on Forest Avenue. He stated the three walked off southbound on Forest Avenue, but was unable to provide description of perpetrators. While in process of searching for offenders, officer stopped a vehicle occupied by four males on Orchard Lane. Upon further investigation, it appeared parties were not involved.
While canvassing area, officer observed green Jeep Wrangler going southbound on Forest Avenue while swerving within its lane at around 2:27 a.m. Officer activated emergency lights and air horn. Driver eventually executed a right onto Orchard Lane where it pulled over. Upon approach, officer detected strong odor of marijuana emanating from cabin. The driver, a 19-year-old Forest Avenue resident, said he did not have any marijuana on him or in vehicle. The man in the passenger seat, a 19-year-old from Stuyvesant Avenue, said the same. In addition, both men in back seat, a 20-year-old Hix Avenue resident and a 20-year-old from Fairway Avenue, repeated the same answer.
Officer detected alcohol on the rear passenger's breath. Operator of vehicle was unable to provide license, so officer requested vehicle be towed and impounded. Occupants removed, and during vehicle inventory officer located plastic box containing marijuana, an 18-pack of Budweiser containing four beers, an empty 18-pack of Budweiser and a red plastic cup. Parties arrested for possession of marijuana. It was also found that parties from Forest and Fairway Avenues had fake IDs on them.
5/18: While on routine patrol, officer observed vehicle traveling west on Cottage Street in eastbound lane of traffic. Subject stopped and waved officer to go around on left. Officer proceeded to wave subject by and then stopped vehicle on Grace Church Street. Officer asked man for license, but he could not produce license or registration. NYSPIN check revealed vehicle stolen from Village of Port Chester May 13. Information confirmed with Port Chester Police Department via radio. Subject then identified himself as 23-year-old from Port Chester.
Offender opened door of vehicle twice, but was advised to keep it closed. At this time, officer asked subject to exit vehicle and to walk to rear of car. Subject exited and began to walk back, but during approach he suddenly stopped, turned around and began to run north on Grace Church Street. During foot pursuit, officer and perpetrator traveled north on Grace Church and east on Eldredge Street. As officer radioed location, subject began to run through backyards towards Leonard Street. Port Chester Police Department advised that this was a known subject to them. Offender eventually stopped running and turned self over to officers on Weber Drive. During vehicle inventory, officers found scale with white powdery substance on it. Subject charged with criminal possession of stolen property greater than $3,000, criminal use of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.
Back at headquarters, Port Chester resident began vomiting violently after reportedly swallowing some of the contraband in custody. Department of Public Works notified of biohazard. EMS dispatched to check on prisoner. EMS evaluated and subject refused medical attention.
5/21: Orchard Avenue resident reported threatening calls to her cellular phone. Complainant stated that group of males called and said if she told anyone about this her mother would find her dead.
5/23: Woodland Avenue resident reported being assaulted by co-worker at Rye Recreation Center. Victim stated that after company softball game, known offender assaulted him in parking lot. Twenty-four-year-old victim stated assault consisted of being thrown to ground and possible knee or elbow to back of head.
5/25: Dispatched on report of loud horn sounding in area of Parkway Drive. There, officer observed NYC yellow taxicab sitting in middle of the road with its hazard lights on. As officer approached, driver stated three boys had just run from his cab without paying. Driver stated offenders ran south off Parkway Drive. He described trio as males in 20s wearing T-shirts and jeans. Driver picked up perpetrators in Manhattan and drove them to two locations in Rye. One man was dropped off at Packard Court and other two on Parkway Drive. Subjects reportedly threw rocks at car as they ran away.
Brief canvass of area was performed and officer observed male fitting description sitting on walkway of residence on Sonn Drive. Driver positively identified male and wished to press charges. Offender was a 19-year-old Boston Post Road resident. When asked several times, 19-year-old refused to reveal identities of other two in taxi. He said they spent all their money in Manhattan and had no cash for ride. Offender was released on $250 bail to third party due to intoxicated state.
5/25: Officer spoke with Rye City School District Dean of Students who stated one of his middle school students threatened a high school student through correspondence with a third party.
5/25: Dispatched to Rye Town Park regarding disoriented individual. Upon arrival, located party sitting on bench wearing sunglasses. Officer asked male if he had difficulty breathing. Party was unable to answer. Officer asked him his name and he responded, “Westchester.” Man was unable to answer simple questions including date of birth and address. He was asked to take off sunglasses; he complied. Officer noticed his eyes were bouncing up and down in pronounced fashion, unable to focus.
During check of man's pockets for identification, officer located one hypodermic needle with liquid in it. Officer asked what liquid was, and offender replied, “Special K.” EMS responded to scene; man was unable to stand without falling. At this point, officer located ID along with social security and probation cards on man. While being treated in ambulance, officer told Briarcliff resident he was under arrest, and handcuffed one hand to gurney. Officer left message for 25-year-old's probation officer and charged offender with criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic instrument.
