Valiant Effort, But Garnets Fall Short In State Semifinals

The lacrosse season came to an end for the Garnets Thursday, June 7, at Hofstra, as they lost 4-2 to Shoreham-Wading River in the Semifinals of the State Tournament.

Many believed Rye to be outmatched by their counterparts from Long Island, but the Garnets proved they belonged with a gutsy performance against the Wildcats. Senior Colin Hart was superb in goal for Rye, and his defense did an excellent job of protecting him. In the end, the Garnets just could not score enough goals to advance to the State Championship in Syracuse.

Rye took the early lead in the first quarter, when Franny Archibald scored halfway through after a six-minute stalemate. Shoreham answered back later in the quarter however, scoring twice in 44 seconds. They would go on to add two more goals – one in the third and another in the fourth – before Archibald scored one more with just under a minute remaining in the game.
