After Faring Well at Regionals, Seven Rye Y Gymnasts Readying for Nationals

The Rye YMCA Gymnastics Team returned from the 2007 Regional Gymnastic Competition, held in Glen Falls, May 4-6, with several awards. The Rye Y gymnasts competed with over 650 gymnasts from 42 YMCAs throughout the Northeast. “The girls performed beautifully,” said Melissa Lewis, Gymnastics Director, who was assisted by Head Coach Chanel Boyd-Grant and Assistant Coach Kathy O'Brien.

The team is now preparing for the National Competition to be held in Seattle, June 27-30. The team members slated to participate are: Mariana Garza, Carlie Beninati, Chloe Schettino, Megan White, Elana Spitz, Sarah Berman and Mary Kate Moseman.

Regional Competition Highlights

Level 4

Mariana Garza: 4th all around

Carlie Beninati: 8th on vault, 10th on bars, 12 on floor

Delaney Colaio-Coppola: 9th on bars

Shelia Moran: 10th on bars

Natalie Bird: 10th on vault

Level 5

Megan White: 1st all around

Sophia Carolini: 9th on vault, 6th on bars, 9th on beam, and 6th on floor

Cristina Buenahora: 8th on bars, 6th on floor

Level 6

Kayla Guagnini: 7th on bars

Elana Spitz: 1st on floor, 4th on beam, 7th on vault

May Kate Moseman: 5th on beam, 8th on vault, 9th on bars, 6th on floor

Sarah Berman: 8.3 on floor
