Manhattanville Opens Westchester's First 24/7 Student Center

Manhattanville College in Purchase opened a new state-of-the-art student center April 11. The center houses a theater, student lounge, dance studio and cardio gym, a student-run radio station and an art gallery.
And the Audubon Society Award Goes to …

Scott Wieman will be awarded the Bedford Audubon Society's Marty McGuire Scholarship May 14, at a ceremony at Katonah Village Hall. The Rye Country Day School sophomore was chosen from a list of candidates from across Northern Westchester and Eastern Putnam. Scott will use the award to attend a weeklong environmental research camp at Maine Audubon Society's Hog Island.
RMS High Achievers
The following Rye Middle School students have been named students of the quarter for the third quarter of the school year. Students were selected by faculty and staff based on their scholarship, citizenship, service and character.
Learning to Lead
Nicole Miller, a sixth grader at Resurrection School, was one of 250 students from across the country chosen to participate in the Junior National Young Leaders Conference held last month in Washington D.C.
Healthy Living 101

The Rye Middle School gym was transformed into a mini expo center April 17 for the first-ever Middle School Health Fair. Tables were set up offering everything from healthy cooking demonstrations to yoga, to alternative medicine.
Starting the Day Off Right
Daniel Warren kindergarteners are learning just how important it is to start the day with a healthy breakfast. During the week of May 3, kindergarten teacher Jane Schumer adopted a “Think Breakfast Week” program, sponsored by the New York State Education Department’s Child Nutrition Program Administration.
Down the Rabbit Hole


A standing ovation for the Midland fifth grade, whose musical production of “Alice and Wonderland” went off without a hitch April 16 and 17. With a cast that included three Alices, and parts written especially for this adaptation, the whole grade had roles worthy of a close up.
New Locations for Administration & RSL
The two-year problem of finding a new home for the Rye School of Leadership (RSL) was solved at the April 29 Board of Education meeting. Board members approved moving the administration staff to 411 Theodore Fremd Avenue, in newly leased space, and then moving the RSL and Special Education Services staff to the vacated 324 Midland Avenue, the current home of the Administration.
A Gilded Affair

School of the Holy Child celebrated 50 years in Rye during its 20th annual auction, April 26 at Westchester Country Club. The night's theme, “As Good As Gold”, acknowledged the school's golden anniversary, but also honored Elizabeth T. Marren, former Chair of the Board, who was presented with the Holy Child Medal.
Harvey School Standouts
Elliot Greenham and Connor Mulhern, both sophomores, and John Mulhern, an eighth grader, all earned a place on the Headmaster's List and Honor Roll at The Harvey School in Katonah for the spring term.
Quality Time with Veterans
Members of Rye Country Day School's Linus Committee visited patients with spinal cord injuries April 15 at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx.
