John Alfano to Receive Americanism Award
It’s hard to find a volunteer position John L. Alfano hasn’t performed with distinction over the past 30 years, and for his loyal service Rye American Legion Post 128 will honor him with its Americanism Award at Memorial Day ceremonies. The ceremonies take place on the Village Green Monday, May 26, 10 a.m.
Mr. Alfano, a longtime Rye resident and City Court Judge for 12 years, has served the City well; he’s been a member of the City Council, the Conservation Commission/Advisory Council, the Planning Commission, the Board of Assessment Review and the Zoning Board of Appeals, which he chaired.
As a Rye Rotary member he has held various leadership posts, including the presidency. A veteran member of Rye American Legion Post 128, he currently serves as judge-advocate. He has also been a trustee of Rye Presbyterian Church, board member of the Rye YMCA and trustee of the Rye Historical Society. For over 20 years he was an active Rye Fire Department volunteer, attaining the captaincy of its Fire Police Patrol.
A graduate of Fordham, Cornell and New York Universities, Mr. Alfano was a Lieutenant with the U.S. Army for two years, including service in Germany. He is an attorney in private practice, with an expertise in transportation.
He and his wife Phyllis, a retired Osborn School teacher, have three married daughters and eight grandchildren.
