The following summarizes reports filed at Rye Police headquarters from 4/19 to 4/30. The information does not include final court or other actions.
4/19: Greenwich man stopped for crossing solid double line and making U-turn at Cedar Street on Boston Post Road. Driver, emitting strong smell of alcohol with bloodshot, glassy eyes, could not produce wallet or driver’s license. Wallet found wedged between seat and console. When asked if he had been drinking, man slurred the words, “one beer.” When asked to count down from 68, the man repeated “63” several times and also “58.” When asked to recite alphabet from F to R, he claimed he could not because he was “dyslexic.” Could not complete heel-to-toe sobriety test and “failed to pivot on his turn.” Charged with Felony DWI due to prior DWI conviction in last 10 years.
4/19: Mamaroneck complainant stated she left her digital camera on bench in Rye Town Park for half an hour in the afternoon and returned to find it gone. Will call with serial/model number.
4/19: Police called to Platt Lane to find backyard of home littered with paper towels and garbage. Owner stated several youths from noisy Clark Lane party were to blame. Officers found several empty cases of beer and half bottle of rum on Clark Lane property. Daughter of owners stated parents were home but sleeping, and that “her father doesn’t like to deal with the Police.” When finally apprised of situation, father said, “What am I supposed to do about it?” Daughter referred to Youth Detective.
4/20: Blind Brook Lodge woman stated her front door was locked with a dead bolt when she left at 10 p.m. and was still locked when she returned at 9:15 a.m., but door had been kicked in. “Attempted crime not completed.”
4/20: Five youths seen walking on roof of Milton School in area under construction. Taken to Police HQ and released to parents.
4/20: Rye man reported receiving harassing text messages on cell phone for past 48 hours.
4/21: Vehicle with $305 in unpaid fines discovered in Smith Street lot. Vehicle towed.
4/24: Purchase Street business burglary alarm set off at 7 a.m. in error by employee. All appeared normal.
4/25: Officers responded to Elm Place to find several intoxicated males in middle of street. An altercation inside The Pub led to victim having shirtsleeve torn off. Offender walked over to victim’s vehicle and tore off the driver side mirror. Offender was read his Miranda rights at 4:20 a.m. Mirror taken into evidence.
4/25: Vehicle with $525 in unpaid fines and an expired registration towed from station plaza. Vehicle impounded.
4/26: Pine Island man stated unauthorized party attempted to wire money out of his account. Statement taken.
4/26: Rye man stopped while traveling east on Peck Avenue in red Toyota 4Runner without registration sticker. Plate number not on file. With help of translator, operator stated his cousin gave him the license plate and it did not belong to car. Several summonses issued and vehicle impounded.
4/26: Officer used “license plate reader” while driving north on Boston Post Road to discover car ahead being driven with lapsed insurance. Driver summonsed.
4/26: Coolidge Avenue man turned in cell phone found near home. Phone bagged and placed in evidence locker.
4/26: Male seen walking briskly west on Palisade Road stated he was coming from son’s house on Grandview Avenue and pointed in the opposite direction from Grandview, saying he was on his way to Port Chester. Stated he carried no identification and threw contents of pants pockets on pavement. When asked if he had any contraband on his person, pedestrian mumbled, “Yes sir, in my mouth.” Four glassine envelopes of crack cocaine dropped from his mouth to sidewalk. Offender arrested.
4/27: Officer on routine patrol noticed black Honda Accord on Midland Avenue with no license plates, though temporary placard half-visible in back window. Closer inspection revealed operator had altered temporary tag expiration from 4/19/08 to 4/29/08. Stated he needed more time to get car registered. Computer check revealed license suspended, and total of 6 scoffs on 6 dates. Vehicle impounded, subject “live-scanned” and released on bail.
4/27: Intoxicated youth spotted walking after 10 p.m. in vicinity of Osborn School. Observed with pants down, urinating on school property while elderly couple walked past. Offender unable to communicate owing to intoxication. Manhattanville College ID produced. Defendant handcuffed, subsequently ROR’d to his mother.
4/28: Construction company owner reported damage to vehicle parked at 30 Beverly Drive during previous 24 hours.
4/28: Theall Road man reported losing handicapped parking permit sometime in previous three weeks.
4/29: Complainant stated he was checking account balance on 4/23 when he “noticed account had no money in it.” Investigation revealed fraudulent activity.
4/30: Lavender Lane man reported loss of passport. Statement taken.
4/30: Sometime between 4/25 and 4/29, a small refrigerator was removed from empty house under construction on North Street. Several contractors have access to area.
