A discussion and reception with Soto and director Gwendolen Cates follows.

MAY 10
Reclaimed Art

The greatly anticipated exhibit “Reclaimed: Paintings from the Collection of Jacques Goudstikker” opens at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich. Goudstikker was the preeminent art dealer in Amsterdam between the First and Second World Wars. Forced to flee Amsterdam in 1940, just ahead of the Nazis, he left behind 1,400 works of art that were looted by Reichsmarschall Hermann Goring. In 2006 a portion of the art was restituted by the Dutch government to Goudstikker’s heir, Marei von Saher, of Greenwich.
The exhibit and its catalogue celebrate Goudstikker’s achievement, expose the atrocities of the Third Reich and tell the story of the protracted restitution.
