The Rye Historical Society presents “Stories at the Square House: Kit from American Girl Doll” Saturday, April 21, 1 to 3 p.m. Children ages 7 to 11 will learn about Kit, a young girl who loves to write and is determined to help her family through America’s Great Depression. The cost is $15 per child.

Make a Mother’s Day card for Mom or Grandma or a birthday greeting for your best friend at the library Saturday, April 28, at 2 p.m. The new young adult librarian, Bettyjane Surabian, will provide teens with all the supplies needed to make fancy and fun cards.

The library invites children to meet picture book author and illustrator Yumi Heo Saturday, April 21, 2 p.m.  Heo, who also owns and operates Polka Dot Penguin Pottery on Purchase Street, will read from her books and show how to draw some of the characters.

In anticipation of the May 4 opening of “Spider Man 3,” Rye Rec will screen “Spider Man 1” and “2” back-to-back from 5 to 10 p.m. April 27. The showing is for grades 6 to 8 only.

Popcorn and drinks will be served. In between movies, there will be a best Spider Man-related costume contest (villains included) with prizes. The fee is $10; register by April 26.

Get your bike tuned up for the Bicycle Rodeo at the Rec Saturday, May 5, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for grades K to 5. Admission is free and includes a helmet check and bicycle relays. The event is co-sponsored by the Traffic & Transportation Committee, Rye Rec and Rye Police and Fire.

Rye Rec is organizing a free "Family Bike Ride" Wednesday nights, May 2 through June 7, 6:30 p.m. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Rides will be on roads, not sidewalks, with an emphasis on riding safely around town. Rides will average between five and nine miles, weather permitting. Helmets are required. Meet in the Rec parking lot.

All seventh and eighth graders are invited to dance, socialize and celebrate spring at the Rye YMCA Spring Fling Dance, Friday, April 28 from 7 to 10 p.m. A $5 admission charge includes pizza.
