RCDS Girls' Lacrosse
Great Expectations

– By Jim Byrne –

Undefeated at 2-0, the Wildcats have started the 2007 campaign exactly as expected.

Hopes are high at Rye Country Day this season, and the Wildcats are showing why with their play so far this year. They kicked things off with two routs at home, defeating Greens Farms Academy and Holy Child by a combined score of 35-10. The girls came flying out of the gate March 30, with their 15-3 win over Greens Farms, and displayed just how far they've come since last season, when they needed overtime to edge GFA, 14-13. Led by a nucleus of six talented seniors, dreams of a Fairchester Athletic Association League Title and a New York State Association of Independent Schools State Championship could come to fruition if the team stays healthy and hungry.

“Our six seniors lead the team in every way,” said head coach Georgette Summers. “As a group and as individuals, they stand out as the most talented group of seniors the girls lacrosse team has had at RCDS in the past seven years.”

Senior captains Meg Savage and Hayley O'Neil are the undisputed leaders on the team, setting the tone from their midfield positions. Throw in the four other seniors, Samantha Greenspan, Erin Alpert, Kelly Lengsfield and Allie Lynch, and you have a recipe made for success. Aside from the seniors, junior Liz Garry is another vital cog, having scored 14 points on seven goals and seven assists through the first two games.

The Wildcats faced their first big test of the year Thursday, April 19, past press time, on the road against Convent of the Sacred Heart.
