Lessons Learned: Ric Klass' Year as a Teacher in the Bronx

Millions of words are published every year about the state of education in our urban schools. Politicians, union leaders, educationalists, foundation leaders, conservatives and liberals have had their say about what's wrong with urban schools and what must be done to fix them. Do they really know what they are talking about it?

Kids Corner
Rye Rec is organizing a free "Family Bike Ride" Wednesday nights, May 2 through June 7, 6:30 p.m. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Arts for All
Celebrating the accomplishments of The Rye Arts Center’s adult participants, the annual Adult and Teen Student Art Show will be on display in the gallery April 29 through May 12.

Carver Celebration

It takes a village, and a city, to come together to raise money for a great cause. A vital resource to thousands of people, the Port Chester Carver Center relies on the generosity of a caring community to support its wide array of benevolent services. Many in our greater community came out to attend the center's festive benefit at PepsiCo April 14.

Heaps of Fun

At the annual Y Healthy Kids Day, April 14, children participated in Kiddy Boot Camp and Hip-Hop Aerobics, jumped, tumbled and boxed and got instruction in karate and scuba diving. They also saw the difference between a healthy and a clogged artery and learned the difference in the amount of sugar in various foods, courtesy of Greenwich Hospital. They got their exercise, along with a healthy dose of nutrition and diet information.

The Google Earth Is Too Much With Us

My 4-year-old son came back from the planetarium all excited.  “Dad, Dad, I saw Google Jupiter!” Since he discovered Google Earth on the Internet at age 3, every planet's name now has the prefix “Google.”
