Farrington Wants to Be a Millionaire;
Becomes a 16-Thousandaire

On Tuesday, April 21 Jeremy Farrington of Rye walked away with $16,000 in winnings on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire”, hosted by Meredith Vieira.

The show, aired on WABC at 12:30 p.m., saw Jeremy use his “Ask The Audience” lifeline on the $1,000 question, which was: “By definition, a gullywasher is a sudden, strong what?  A: Firestorm, B: Rainstorm, C: Sandstorm, D: Snowstorm.”  The studio audience voted as follows:  A=2% B=86% C=3% D=9%.  Jeremy went with the advice of the audience and correctly guessed the answer to be “B.”

Then Jeremy, a 1994 graduate of Rye High School and the son of Art and Vicky Farrington, used his “Phone A Friend” lifeline on the $8,000 question, which was: “To prevent birth defects, doctors recommend that pregnant women consume sufficient Vitamin B9, also known as what?  A: Beta-carotene, B: Riboflavin, C: Niacin, D: Folic acid.”  Jeremy called his fiance’s brother Michael, who was able to give him the correct answer, which was “D.”

Jeremy currently lives in White Plains and works as an Assistant Managing Clerk at a law firm. A newlywed, he married his longtime sweetheart Maryclare this past January.  Maryclare (his fiancé at the time) came to NYC and sat in the “Millionaire” audience as his on-air companion for the show. Her  mother Mary and Jeremy’s parents attended Jeremy’s taping.

On the $16,000 question, which was:  “In which of these places would a McDonald's Big Mac set you back a few hundred kronur?  A: Saudi Arabia , B: South Africa , C: Iceland, D: Egypt,” Jeremy used his “Ask The Expert” lifeline and connected with Bill Nye the Science Guy via a Skype video call. Nye was able to give him the correct answer, which was “C.”

Jeremy’s $25,000 question was: “The famous statement “War is hell” is widely attributed to a famous general of what war?  A: World War I, B: U.S. Civil War, C: American Revolution, D: Spanish-American War.”  Unsure of the answer, Jeremy decided to not take a guess and walked away with the guaranteed $16,000 that he had already won.  The correct answer was “B,” attributed to General William Sherman.
Congrats, Jeremy.
