Lee Woodruff Throws Us a Lifeline

Like a fresh, bestirring sea breeze, Lee Woodruff’s first collection of essays and stories, “Perfectly Imperfect: A Life in Progress”, makes all of us voyagers feel good to still be here. Her combination of curiosity, levity and generosity of spirit are enough to keep us way above water.
Beyond Rye – A Brief Visit to Prague

A traveler to Prague quickly discovers that the capital of the Czech Republic is both wonderful and compact. Even though the city’s population of 1.2 million people is spread out over a large metropolitan area, almost everything of interest to tourists lies within the historic center.

A Collection of Good Scouts
More than 100 Rye Girl Scouts and their parents recently enjoyed an afternoon of ice skating at Playland Ice Casino, the setting for their 2009 community event. To participate, the girls were asked to bring a donation of infant formula and/or any size diapers and pull-ups.

Five Rye residents were among 30 local participants who ran the ING Miami Half Marathon to raise money for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. Dubbed “Team Challenge”, the group trained vigorously and ended up raising over $170,000 for research to cure Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

A Monumental Exhibit of French Bronzes at the Met

“Cast in Bronze: French Sculpture from Renaissance to Revolution”, a special exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is one for the ages. There hasn’t been a major exhibit of French bronzes for 40 years and you won’t want to miss this one. Ten years in the making, the exhibit was organized by the Louvre, where it first opened, the Met, and the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, where it goes next.
