Save the Date

A sure sign of spring is The Little Garden Club of Rye's annual Daffodil Show, April 28, 2 to 3:30 p.m., at The Osborn Retirement Community. "Through the Lens," a photography show with two classes, “The Garden at a Glance” and “Zoomed-in”, will be featured at the same time. Both are open to the public. The event is free of charge.

The show is approved by The American Daffodil Society, Inc. and ribbons will be awarded. The Royal Horticultural Society system of classification will be used and an exhibitor may enter as many times in as many classes as he or she wishes. There are thousands of varieties of daffodils, and many past winners have been snipped out of a local gardener's plot minutes before being brought in for exhibition. The six horticultural divisions for this show are single stem, standard cultivar; three stems, one standard cultivar or species; miniature daffodils; youth division; standard daffodil collections; and historic daffodils.

Containers and wedging material for cut flower exhibits will be furnished by the show committee. No daffodil foliage is permitted. Entries will be received April 27 from 3 to 5 p.m. Judging is the next morning from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All entries should be removed that day between 3:30 and 5 p.m., following the show. For more information, rules and entry cards, contact the shows' chairs, Robin Russell (967-8044) or Susan Gabel (203-532-5621). The public is encouraged to enter.

All photographic entries for “Through the Lens” are limited to subjects outlined in the purpose of The Garden Club of America. They are horticulture, flower arrangement, garden/landscapes, conservation/environment, historic preservation and civic improvement. Entries will be received through April 20.
