Bird watching can be a great adventure, but it can also be frustrating and overwhelming to new birders. Come learn Basic Birding for Beginners at the Marshlands Conservancy, Sunday, April 19, at 9:30 a.m. Naturalist Megan Aitchison will go over binocular and field guide use, as well as tips on field marks, shape and behavior that will help you start on a lifelong hobby. Please bring your own binoculars and field guides if you have them. Call 835-4466 for more information.
The Friends of Rye Nature Center will again host over two dozen environmental organizations and green businesses for an Earth Day Celebration Sunday, April 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. The event is open to the public at no charge. It features exhibitors, demonstrations, lectures, guided hikes, activities and a showing of student artwork.
Participants can learn to improve their own yards and households from a wide variety of speakers and workshops on topics ranging from organic lawn care, nature-friendly household products and green investing.
Join the Friends of Rye Nature Center and its partnering organizations in celebrating the earth with a nature poetry hike, nature crafts for kids and a student art show. For more information, visit www.ryenaturecenter.org or call 967-5150.
