The Wait Is Almost Over
Senior spring break trips are a great way to bond with friends and end high school in high spirits. Many Rye High School students are traveling together in early April and for them, the break can’t come soon enough. While they feel lucky to be able to go on vacation, a trip seems like a good reward for working hard throughout high school. Here is what five seniors are planning for their week off.
Senior class vice president Cristy Jamison is counting down the days until break. She will be leaving for Our Lucaya in Grand Bahama Island, a trip that over 100 seniors have signed on for. There, at an all-inclusive resort with great daytime activities and nightlife, Cristy is looking forward to a week of fun in the sun: “I’m excited to spend time with a variety of groups of people for my last senior hurrah!” Christy helped organize this class trip, and hopes students will come back to Rye closer than when they left.
Evan Mintz is also headed for Our Lucaya, where he hopes to play golf and relax on the beach with friends and peers. The idea of being with five of his closest friends on an island sounds like paradise. “This trip is important because it is the last major experience I will have with my friends.”
Not everyone is heading to the Caribbean. Travis LaBella will travel to Europe, on a trip organized by RHS teachers and school administrators. This year, the destinations are Italy and Greece. For Travis, this will serve as a fantastic way to socialize with friends and explore beautiful cities. “I’m going to enjoy my time in Europe with my closest friends, and soak in the feeling of being a senior for the last time,” he said.
Gracie Philipp also chose the RHS Europe trip for her last senior vacation. Gracie, who is passionate about the arts, is looking forward to the trip because of the classic art and architecture that she will see in cities like Rome and Athens. Gracie is so excited about visiting Greece, she even has picked up Greek language tapes from the library in order to be able to communicate well.
Also traveling to Europe, but not with the school, is Hannah Simonson, who will explore Prague and Krakow with two friends. She has been planning the trip since last summer, taking on the challenge to learn new languages, create an itinerary, and find youth hostels. “I’m really looking forward to seeing Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, and all the other old, beautiful architecture in both cities,” she said. “It will be fabulous.”
