The Play's the Thing at Milton

Milton fifth graders will take the stage March 28 and 29 to perform the musical "Oliver!" Under the direction of Rye Elementary Music Department Chair Dr. Shawn Amdur, students and parent volunteers put together costumes and props and built a set that evokes Dickensian London. Based on the novel "Oliver Twist", the musical follows the hard-knock life of a workhouse orphan, who runs away to London and unwittingly gets caught up with a criminal gang of pickpockets.
Students auditioned in December and have been rehearsing ever since. Each student will play a different role each night, so that everyone gets a chance at a bigger role. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.
