A Respectful Restoration

When one Rye family with deep roots here bought a fine, brick Georgian 11 years ago, they began restoring it to its 1927 condition, keeping the original lines and design. They updated every room, filling the sunroom and the bay in the kitchen with a handsome collection of antique wicker. Antiques and family heirlooms are beautifully displayed in the formal entertaining spaces.

The den is the husband's turf, but he's not the only member of the family who plays the guitar. The fireplace tiles depicting Western wildlife look old, but were actually bought a few years ago at a tile center in Manhattan.

There's plenty of life in this stately home, from the handpainted checkerboard floor in the kitchen to the folk art on the sunroom walls.
