This Kitchen Has All The Right Ingredients

Julie Killian comes from a large family, all of whom love to cook, and has five children of her own, so her kitchen had to accommodate plenty of activity and people. She wanted lots of light, which streams naturally through the skylight and the tall windows that run down to the countertop, and lots of work space to spread out on. “The island is teak because I wanted it to be a piece of furniture. I'm so happy I decided to add refrigerator drawers, which put many ingredients right at my fingertips.”

The Killian kitchen is a place where more than one person can cook at the same time. “That's good because both my mother and one sister are caterers and I want my kids to learn to cook. And we all want to be around one another.” So her kitchen needed to be able to accommodate five children all of the year and big family gatherings many times of the year.

Rye architect Paul Benowitz was in charge of the project and Form Limited in Greenwich designed the cabinetry.
