City of Rye Pitches In

Assistant City Manager Scott Pickup told The Rye Record that the City is taking a number of steps to deal with the flooding issues. Here are his remarks:

“The staff has been working with the US Army Corps of Engineers to prepare and present a Watershed Management Plan for the Blind Brook. As part of that review, specific improvements in structural and non-structural flood mitigation improvements are being identified, and a preliminary set of cost estimates for these improvements will be identified. This effort has been funded through federal monies allocated through Nita Lowey's office in fiscal year 2006.

An additional $100,000 in funding has been requested for fiscal year 2007 to finish this project and report on the options. Concrete proposals in the document will be pursued with City Council guidance and funding.

Additionally, the City is working with Lowey's office to secure additional funding for a comprehensive watershed effort, which will incorporate multiple water bodies and multiple communities here in Westchester.”
