Just a Few Steps from the Gold

It was an exciting season for Osborn School’s Ballroom Dance Team. After 10 weeks of classroom instruction by Rodney Lopez of American Ballroom Theater’s Dancing Classrooms program, the fifth graders competed in the Fall Semester Rainbow Team Match. At the quarterfinals, December 2 at PS 41 in Bayside, Queens, Osborn earned one of three gold level spots to move on to the semifinals at PS 69 in Jackson Heights December 11. Osborn once again earned one of three gold level spots to move on to the Fall Semester Citywide Final December 17 at Columbia University. With nine teams competing, Osborn won one of three silver level spots.

This is the fourth year the dancing program has been provided to all of Osborn’s 5th graders by Osborn School and the Osborn PTO. In previous years, the competition team hadn’t gotten past the quartefinals, achieving the bronze level in 2005 and the silver level in both 2006 and 2007.

Congratulations to team members Mark Croughan and Cheyenne Mion (meringue), Sung-Joon Kim and Emma Stearns (fox trot), Daniel Severance and Taylor Noto (rumba), Ryan Anderson and Dana McLaughlin (tango), Will Colwell and Deirdre Potter (swing), Stephen O’Connell and Melissa Mina (team captains).
Looking forward to seeing the Osborn fifth graders back in the swing of the competition this coming fall.
