Making a Splash on New Year’s

Supporters of the Friends of Clare foundation braved the cold January 1 to participate in the New Year’s Day Dive at Rye Town Park. No wet suits were allowed, but the 80 people who dove in were all smiles — as were the 150 or so who cheered them on from the beach. Some of them even got their feet wet.
Phil Gormley thanked participants on behalf of his sister Claire Gormley Collier, a mother of three who is battling ALS. The event raised over $4,500 for the foundation.
Rye Team Hits the Trail for Mike Swain

Team Swain recently ran a 10k in memory of Michael Swain, a great runner and friend who died last summer of pancreatic cancer at the age of 46. Of the 75 participants in the run in Pound Ridge, 25 were from Rye. Kevin Cunningham organized the Rye contingent.
Swain’s family was on hand for the event; his wife Jen did the race and daughter Molly and son Jake were enthusiastic supporters. Proceeds from the race went to pancreatic cancer research and a scholarship for the Swain children.
The 10K run included running through a waist-high creek for 20 feet. Mike Swain, a lover of nature and the great outdoors, was smiling down that beautiful day.
Supply Side Scouting

Milton School 5th Grade Girl Scouts recently did a supply drive for the New Rochelle Humane Society November 12. The drive was a step towards the girls' goal of becoming an Honor Troop. The girls visited the shelter to bring food, toys, and bedding for the animals. They got a tour of the shelter, which takes in mainly dogs and cats, played with some of the current residents, and learned about volunteer opportunities at the shelter.
